Halle,
Thank you so much for the call this morning discussing how to connect better with folks everywhere. I would like a review on my what I do sentence:
“I help executives & startups deliver their presentations with more clarity, ease and personality to increase reach, grow sales, get funded.”
AND…many times folks say to me, “Oh, just like Toastmasters”. This pushes every button on me. How about this reply:
“Actually, my work is not at all like Toastmasters. Toastmasters is a place to practice structured speech making in front of others. It does not teach you to grow your business nor offer deep results like you get from one to one training.”

@miluna-fausch, GREAT start!!!
For your help statement, how about we rework that to LOSE the auto-connect to Toastmasters!!
“I help executives & startups increase reach, grow sales, get funded by developing spectacular presentation techniques.”
First of all, it’s shorter, and second, you tell them RIGHT AWAY WHO and then WHAT’S IN IT FOR THEM!!! HOW you do it is of much less importance!!
I’m going to encourage you to totally rewrite your rebuttal re. Toastmasters, too… because… it’s totally negative!!! It argues against Toastmasters, which is a great organization – and it doesn’t tell us more about YOU, which is the Benevolent Alpha approach I talk about in my Positioning video (you might want to rewatch that first, too – (All my videos are in the Transformational Business Strategy module (bottom middle module on your MAIN DASHBOARD – turquoise with a bulls eye) video index is to the right of the video window, in alphabetical order.)
Feel free to tag me in the rewrite!!

I love your Positioning video Halle, and have watched several times. What is negative about my comment? I was in Toastmasters and found it shut me down. I seek to always tell the truth, and Toastmasters can be very helpful to people practicing prepared speeches in front of other folks also learning. My objection is that sometimes people are in for years without transforming the way they speak and present. Toastmasters also does not teach folks business strategies.
Does this illustrate and differentiate my coaching programs:
“I help executives and startups increase sales, get funding, and effectively master confident, effective, inclusive verbal communication through my 1-to-1 proven Vocal Archetypes systems.”
Thanks much!

It’s a little wordy, and you’re telling them how, which you don’t want to do in the first sentence. You need to tell them WHAT and WHY it’s important to THEM. In as few words as possible. Try the version I gave you. OUT LOUD. Then tell 3 people what you do using that sentence. Try it out and see how it feels:
“I help executives & startups increase reach, grow sales, get funded by developing spectacular presentation techniques.”
If you don’t like the word presentation, use speaking.
Re. Toastmasters, here’s how it’s negative:
Your comment: “Actually, my work is not at all like Toastmasters. Toastmasters is a place to practice structured speech making in front of others. It does not teach you to grow your business nor offer deep results like you get from one to one training.”
Negative statements within the above:
not at all like Toastmasters
does not teach you to grow your business
nor offer deep resultsNegative means you are saying something AGAINST. Positive means you are making the case FOR. Make sense? However, psychologically, you have 3 negatives through which you are comparing your work, which means people keep hearing NO statements in regards to what you do. I encourage you to REWRITE it as I stated in my previous response in August – it’s good practice for you to understand your choices with speaking.
You’ve got this!!!
